Small Space Workstation
As many of us gear up for a school year filled with some kind of remote learning, I wanted to share the workspace I had created for my daughter in our NYC apartment. I had originally purchased this desk when my 3 and 5-year-old daughters were sharing the smaller of two kid bedrooms we had. So the space really had to be utilized creatively. As much as I loved the setup with the corner unit as a headboard for each bed, it just took up way too much room. Cecilia’s bed ran the entire length of the wall, and you couldn’t even get the closet door completely open!
As Layla approached the end of preschool, I knew I wanted to get her a real desk to celebrate that she was off to grammar school, but I had no idea how I was going to make it all fit. Then the idea came to me to just remove the corner unit entirely! There would be plenty of space for a small desk with Cecilia’s bed pushed up into the space where the corner unit used to be.
This leaning desk fit perfectly into the space and still allowed for the closet door to open completely! One tip for workstations for young kids is to get a desk chair that is adjustable. The original chair I purchased was just too low for Layla so I had to grab another and found a good one at HomeGoods.
Of course during our spring break week at home, I decided to swap the kids bedrooms so the twins went into the smaller room and my girls are now set up into the bigger room. Just in time for Layla to end up spending long days at the desk!
